1st December 2023
During the beginning of December 2020 I wrote the below post. Its strange reading back on it now, what a bizarre time we were all experiencing during ‘Covid lockdown’.
Dyslexia and Phonics
Fast track 3 years later, I reflect that my love of the escapism the ‘story world’ provides helped me enormously during those times. I am even more passionate in encouraging children to develop a pleasure for reading.
As I explained during last week I am now an independant partner with Usborne books. With my post 3 years ago in mind, here is what Usborne has to say with regard to phonics…..
Usborne recognises the advantages of children learning through play and having fun. They have multi sensory books which use more than one sense at a time; sight, hearing, touch and movement. There are books available that address non-verbal and verbal reasoning to suit the individual.
For the more reluctant readers or the children who may have lower ability but higher interests, there are books for you too! There are books with a mixture of fonts/text and books with a high picture to word ratio on interesting subjects.
Check out the comic strip/Graphic Novel collection for 7 years + :

Since starting selling Children’s books I have come to realise that alot of people associate Usborne books for pre school children. Where this is true, they have a great selection, over the last decade their fiction books have expanded! Covering strong, diverse fiction list for children from aged 7 to 14+. The young adult books are well worth a read even if you are an ‘older’ adult like me!
Book clubs are a great idea. Bringing books to life and discussing your views and maybe suggesting different endings to the book….
The young adult collection book club chosen title for December is ‘Catch your Death’ by Ravena Guron….

Three girls stranded in a mansion during a snow storm and stumble into a murder plot. See I told you, Usborne is not just for pre school!

Do you dare to read????
If any of the above has enticed you to explore further whats on offer please go to my webpage for a browse and feel free to ask me any questions.
